New Social Bookmarking tool OnlyWire.com

Seems like a really convenient way to bookmark your favorite content to your favorite social bookmarking sites. Of course you should include your own sites as well. Why? Because bookmarking to these sites will create quality backlinks to your site therefore creating trust with Google and increasing page rank. Not to mention getting your content in front of more people.

So far it has been very easy to use. Most of the social bookmarking sites that OnlyWire.com is using are easy to use. When I say this I mean that your content is bookmarked without the need to login to that particular site.  For example I have Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit set up as a few of my bookmarking sites. When I submit content these 3 sites require a bit more work. Not much however. OnlyWire.com has done a great job of making even these sites easy.

They will tell you which sites were successfully submitted and which ones need to be “finalized” or the ones that failed all together. Either way, it seems to be a great tool. I will write more later as I become more familiar with the service.

The importance of proper link building.

Proper Link Building

Proper Link Building

It is becoming even more apparent that importance of proper link building is one of the key factors when Google is determining your website’s authority and therefore where you show up in the SERPS. In many cases if done properly you may not have to do anything else to get high rankings in the SERPS. That’s how important proper link building really is.

There has also been a lot of discussion about whether or not Google values links with the no follow tag. I haven’t seen any scientific data to comment with conviction but I will tell you that most of you highly repsected SEO’s out there do not give much value in these types of links. Some say they have no value while others (much smaller group) say that any link with your keyword as the anchor text will add some value. Anything that confirms your site’s relevance in Google’s eyes will help to some extent.

Keep in mind that just because there is a no follow tag doesn’t mean that Google doesn’t see the link and the text associated with it. The no follow tag was designed to help reduce spam and help with page rank sculpting by telling Google that the link is not important. Page rank sculpting is using the no follow tag to reduce page rank leaks to your privacy policy for example.

Here is a quick blog post from Dan Thies on link building. You should also download his SEO Fast Start eBook which is free.

In summary, concentrate on finding DO follow links within sites that have authority. This most likely would be a much better use of your time.

Page Rank 5 Today.com allows posts with dofollow links.

Today.com has a page rank of 5 and allows you to set up your own blog using a sub domain like “username.today.com”. I would like to hear from the serious seo pros out there about the real seo mechanics behind this.

My question is this. Am I relly getting good link juice from Today.com’s page rank 5? When I do a site:myusername.today.com Google doesn’t even show that it is indexed. That is where my links are. I do know that pages are ranked not websites neccessarily. Although they are dofollow links does it really matter because the page they are linking off of are not ranked?

Link Building

Link building is perhaps the most important factor determining your websites ranking in the search engines. It could also be one of the most difficult. In order to get links to your website, you need to create great content.

Website owners are constantly trying to create more value for their visitors. By gathering information from across the net and linking to it on their site, they are able to keep visitors coming back. However, these website owners are looking for quality content. Keep it safe.

I should write a word of caution here. The more links you have pointing to your site the better in most cases. DO NOT start spamming the net with links pointing back to you. Google has worked very hard to tell the difference between good quality links and bad ones. There are a ton of sites out there offering to get 100’s or 1000’s of links to your website for nominal money. These links are usually no good and Google can tell. They may even penalize you for it.
